»It was disturbing words that were spoken in front of the high court.«
So wrote the Zurich Tages-Anzeiger [mainstream daily press of the Swiss city of Zurich; mb.] in December 2015.
And continued:
»They did not fit at all with the multiple… sexual acts at issue. But the now 25-year-old woman said, „Everything that happened was very pleasant. I enjoyed it.“«
»For over two hours, the young woman had to give information about the events that allegedly took place between the ages of three and six. For example, that her father sat with her on the living room sofa… that they watched a porn film together, that he undressed his daughter and touched her nipples. For example, that he grabbed her between the legs in the marital bed and she had to satisfy him with her hand – according to his instructions. For example, that there was mutual oral sex on the bed in his study room.«
»Five specific assaults«
»Today, two decades later, she can concretely remember five assaults because she has images of them in her head „that won’t go away“. But she is sure that there were more. But she doesn’t want to remember much either. Calmly, with great linguistic fluency, she answers all the questions, as far as her memory allows.«
This happened before the second instance. The first court had found the woman’s statements insufficiently precise, and therefore acquitted the father she had accused.
»There was no coercion«
»The father had denied the assaults from the very beginning. For the high court, however, his statements were „not convincing“ – in contrast to those of the daughter. When asked why she had not defended herself against the abuse, she had said: „I felt good, it was casual. I had no reason to say no, I could be with my father and feel special. There was no coercion, no threat.“ It had all been „voluntary and playful.“«
It was precisely this openness, with which the woman also reported the positive feelings she had experienced as a little girl during sexual acts with her father, that earned her the court’s trust. Some people would probably have judged exactly the opposite. Anyone who describes their own father’s sexual acts as pleasurable cannot mean this serious. That would have been their negative assessment.
»“Who would say such a thing, who would want to bamboozle his father with false accusations?“ the court asked in the opening of the judgement. The fact that the woman had only filed a criminal complaint in the summer of 2012 made sense to the court. „I was afraid of what it could trigger.“ She only wanted to clear the air after moving out of home and before starting an exchange year abroad, in order to be able to „start again“ afterwards.“«
The high court sentenced the man to 24 months imprisonment – on probation. The court probably didn’t quite want to condemn the father either.

One would like to know more about the motives that finally led the daughter to press charges. To „clear the air“? From this it can be concluded that something remained; something that separated the daughter from her father. It would be instructive to know what exactly that was. It would shed more light on what sex leaves behind between adult and child. However, neither is unexpected, neither the unproblematic enjoyment of sexual attentions, which the reporter calls „disturbing“, nor the rift that occurs later. There is, for example, the book by Susan Clancy: „The Trauma Myth“, in which this American psychologist presents the results of research she did at Harvard University. Her findings, one and all, follow exactly this pattern: the children had no problem as children with what is now generally considered almost unbearable, but were later caught up in the aftermath.
